Community and Other Referrals

What Is Outreach?

Outreach is about increasing college student mental health awareness through prevention, awareness, education, and stigma reduction. Through outreach, EKUCC staff and Mental Health Peer Advocate students (MHPAs) are able to connect with the larger EKU community.

Outreach topics provided (but are not limited to):

  • Stress Management
  • Meditation and Relaxation Techniques
  • Counseling Center Services
  • QPR: Suicide Prevention Training (See below for more information)
  • Additional outreach topics are available upon request

Workshop Requests

If you have a request for a workshop presentation or outreach program, please go to our Requests page and fill out a form.

QPR: Suicide Prevention Training

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper training in as little as one hour.

As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:
• Recognize the warning signs of suicide
• Know how to offer hope
• Know how to get help and save a life

To request a QPR training, email Dr. Paul Morgan. Minimum of 5 people required per training.
EKU Students interested in a QPR training: We will be conducting all of our Open QPR presentations through the SLATE portal. If you are interested in signing up, please follow the link here to register. Due to the structure of the training, each section is limited to 30 participants. This training is 1 hour in length.

Requests to Interview a Licensed EKUCC Clinician

Invitations to interview with EKUCC staff are considered and accepted on a case-by-case basis, based on the nature of the request and in alignment with EKUCC Policies and Procedures. A minimum of 2 weeks is required for a response. Interviews with staff at the EKUCC are only given through email, and we will need a copy of the questions to be answered as part of this process. EKUCC policy states that we also require to see a preview of what will be published or made public before any publication is finalized.

For any further questions, please email the EKUCC Coordinator of Community Intervention Rachel Cvengros.
